Scott Knight

 

Starting at the age of six, Scott has now been playing piano for more than 45 years and teaching for over 30. He has an extensive education in the world of music; he holds a Diploma of Music from Capilano University, a Bachelor of Music from the University of Victoria, followed by Masters level studies in Collaborative Piano from the University of British Columbia. He also spent two seasons studying Piano, Vocal Coaching and Conducting at the N.U.O.V.A. school for Advanced Studies in Opera at the University of Alberta where he worked with Nico Castel (the world's leading language coach), Michael McMahon, Carol Isaac, and Tracey Dahl. He has also studied Conducting and Musical Direction at Tapestry New Opera in Toronto.

Scott has enjoyed a varied career in the fields of Opera and Musical Theatre. He has worked with UBC OperaVancouver Academy OperaBurnaby Lyric Opera and has spent two years as Pianist and Music Director for Vancouver Opera's Touring Ensemble where he played more than 250 performances of Rossini's 'The Barber of Seville' and 'La Cenerentola'. He also spent five years with the Courtenay Youth Music Centre as Pianist and Co-Musical Director where he worked on 'Guys and Dolls''Fame'and 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying'. Scott also spent two years as Music Director for the Capilano College Theatre Society, one year teaching musical theatre at the Gateway Theatre Academy and three years at Arts Umbrella. Scott was twice nominated for a Jessie Richardson Awardfor Best Musical Direction for his outstanding achievement on Skycorner's production of 'Falsettos', as well as his work on Patrick Street's 'Into the Woods'. He has also worked with the Vancouver Playhouse, Royal City Musical TheatreT.U.T.S.Firehall Theatre and many more.

Scott has also enjoyed an extensive recital and freelance career. He has toured with the Canadian Tenors and Romanza and was also a regular guest with the Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra.

Scott has been a piano technician for more than 15 years servicing pianos throughout the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island.
